Agere Enters Wireless Power Amplifier Market with 21 Products

Agere Systems introduced 21 transistors targeting the wireless base station power amplifier market. The entrance into power amplifiers substantially broadens Agere's portfolio of base station components, which also includes digital signal processors and network processors. Agere plans to sell these transistors both in tandem with and separate from all the other components it sells for wireless base stations. Agere said its power amplifier transistors would enable much cooler, smaller, and less expensive wire less base stations. The new product family features laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) process technology. Agere also cited two key innovations in the new RF power transistors. The first innovation resolves the issue of how to eliminate defects in chips when making ultra-thin silicon wafers. The second advance improves the transistor's performance when amplifying wireless signals.
