Clarinet Systems introduced a switch that enables PDA users to uplink data from a Palm Handheld or Pocket PC to an 802.11 network using the device's built-in infrared port. The switch eliminates the need for end users to purchase expansive and power-hungry 802.11b add-on cards for their PDAs. Clarinet is initially targeting the medical field where doctors and nurses use PDAs for data input. Other applications could include public hot-spots or campus installations.
