Federated Wireless, which offers a Spectrum Access System (SAS) for managing shared spectrum, closed on an additional $14 million in Series D funding bringing the total raised in the round to $72 million.
This brings total funding raised by Federated Wireless to $213 million.

CalChip Connect, a leading IoT distributor, has selected Federated Wireless as its preferred private wireless service delivery partner.
As the first major achievement of the collaboration, Federated Wireless has completed the deployment of a private wireless network and innovation center to power CalChip Connect’s global IoT distribution center in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This deployment will serve as a reference architecture and ecosystem for customers to easily design and deploy smart warehouse solutions with private wireless customized to their exact use case requirements. Customers will also benefit from the Federated Wireless Spectrum Access System (SAS) which monitors and manages CBRS spectrum throughout the United States to enable clean, high speed, low latency spectrum, perfect for industrial use cases.

Federated Wireless has opened a Spectrum Exchange to enable Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) Priority Access License (PAL) holders to lease under-utilized spectrum to third parties to supplement General Authorized Access (GAA) availability.
The Spectrum Exchange provides an automated portal that uses Light Touch API technology to eliminate the need to file documents and wait for approval from the FCC, for those wishing to lease spectrum from PAL holders. The engagement model is analogous to peer-to-peer accommodation services (e.g. Airbnb, VRBO, etc), offering simplicity, flexibility and quick transaction time for leasing spectrum. Organizations seeking assured, PAL-grade connectivity throughout the 3.5 GHz CBRS band will simply visit the Spectrum Exchange, browse through the lists of providers, spectrum availability, time periods and locations, and place an order online. Cost for spectrum is determined by each spectrum owner and can vary depending on geography and bandwidth amounts. Spectrum is allocated almost instantly for the period requested through the Federated Wireless Spectrum Access System (SAS), with ongoing delivery assured through the Federated Wireless network operations center (NOC).

Federated Wireless secured $13.7 million in additional Series C funding for its private wireless Connectivity-as-a-Service (Caas) based on CBRS shared spectrum.
The new funding came from existing investors Allied Minds (LSE: ALM) and Pennant Investors.
Federated Wireless said it will use the funding accelerate expansion and adoption of its Caas in partnership with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. It will also provide a new path to 1,000 MHz of spectrum for private wireless networks by expansion into the 6 GHz band for 5G services. The offering will leverage both Wi-Fi 6 and 5G in the 6 GHz band to enable data transfers of up to 10 Gbps. The FCC is expected to finalize the rules for 6 GHz shared operation later this month, with a number of countries in the European Union and in Asia expected to follow suit by 2022.

Federated Wireless extended its Spectrum Controller platform to enable spectrum sharing in the 6 GHz band.
The new Spectrum Controller functionality is currently deployed in trials and is expected to be available for commercial use by the end of 2020.
Federated Wireless said the new capabilities represent a significant leap forward for the wireless industry and for U.S. operators and enterprises that will soon be able to take advantage of unlicensed use of 1,200 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band. The 6 GHz band currently is set aside for licensed users, including carriers and MVNOs, who have deployed thousands of point-to-point microwave links to backhaul network traffic.
