U.S. forms National Semiconductor Technology Center Consortium

A new National Semiconductor Technology Center will convene government, industry, customers, suppliers, educational institutions, entrepreneurs, and investors as a public-private consortium to innovate, connect, and solve problems.

The Department of Commerce expects to invest over $5 billion in the program. Deirdre Hanford, a semiconductor industry leader with 30 years of experience at Synopsys, has been selected as the first Chief Executive Officer of Natcast.org, the organization that will operate the NSTC consortium.

The NSTC will also prioritize launching a Workforce Center of Excellence, which will be a hub for workforce development for semiconductor companies doing business in America.

“Semiconductors are at the heart of the economy, impacting every aspect of our lives,” said Deirdre Hanford. “My amazing years at Synopsys have given me a broad and deep view of the semiconductor landscape. I am honored and humbled to take on the role of Natcast CEO. I look forward to fulfilling the CHIPS NSTC mission of fostering semiconductor innovation and growing a talented workforce.”
