China Telecom has selected Ericsson as a supplier of its packet data serving node (PDSN) and to expand its CDMA packet core network as well as provide related services for a period of two years. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Ericsson note that this is the first time it will supply a complete CDMA packet core network solution to China Telecom. In addition, Ericsson will also deploy the world's first smart pipe solution customized for CDMA networks. It will be deployed in the Zhejiang and Anhui provinces.
China Telecom currently has 129.25 million CDMA users, including 38.7 million 3G subscribers.
