LightSquared Signs Leap & Best Buy for Wholesale LTE

At last week's CTIA, LightSquared disclosed two customers for it upcoming wholesale LTE service: Leap Wireless (parent company of Cricket Communications) and Best Buy Connect, a new service that is expected to launch later this year. LightSquared said it is negotiating with as many as 15 potential players. Time Warner Cable is rumored to be among the potential clients for LightSquared.

Earlier this month, LightSquared announced a multi-year, strategic partnership with Open Range Communications to serve rural markets across the U.S. The partnership is expected to include a licensing arrangement whereby Open Range will lease LightSquared's L-band spectrum. This wholesale agreement will enable Open Range to sell LightSquared's next generation satellite capacity. The partnership will also include a 4G nationwide reciprocal roaming arrangement.
