SiTime Builds Market in MEMS-based Timing

SiTime, a start-up based in Sunnyvale, California, has 85% share of the MEMS-based timing market, according to a recent report from Yole Développement, a leading MEMS technology consulting firm. The report also forecasted that the MEMS-based timing market will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 80% from 2010 to 2015.


SiTime's portfolio of MEMS-based silicon timing solutions include high performance differential and spread spectrum oscillators, VCXOs and multiple output clock generators.


The company recently announced that cumulative shipments of its MEMS First CMOS oscillators and clock generators are expected to exceed 20 million units in May 2010. The MEMs-based devices replace quartz in applications including networking, telecommunications, storage and consumer electronics.


"Silicon MEMS oscillator technology has been accepted by the timing market as a viable alternative to quartz in many applications. MEMS oscillators are now in high-volume production, with several million units produced per month," said Laurent Robin, lead analyst for MEMS sensors and oscillators at Yole Développement.
