Thailand's DTAC Implements Nokia Siemens Networks' Energy Solutions

DTAC, the second largest mobile operator in Thailand, has signed Nokia Siemens Networks to modernize its network with a new architecture, technology, and approach that aims to significantly lower its carbon emission.

Under the deal, Nokia Siemens Networks will deploy its latest mobile softswitching platforms to reduce the number of switching sites needed in the core network. The company will also remove a significant number of transcoder nodes by providing the same functionality with Nokia Siemens Networks software features, and improve ventilation at radio network sites to reduce dependency on air conditioning. Nokia Siemens Networks estimates that these modernized elements will reduce carbon emissions by at least 60% compared to the previous generation of infrastructure providing the same amount of capacity. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Total Access Communication Public Company Limited (DTAC), a subsidiary of Telenor, currently serves about 19.7 million phone numbers.
