Lantiq Completes Metalink Acquisition -- WLAN

Lantiq completed its acquisition of WLAN related assets and intellectual property (IP) from Israel-based Metalink Ltd. The deal includes patents, technology, and more than 50 engineers in the Middle East and Asia who will continue to drive innovation in the WLAN market. Also, Lantiq has established a new WLAN-related technical competence center in Yakum, Israel, as part of this acquisition.

Metalink's WLANPLUS is a high-throughput, 802.11n-draft-compliant wireless LAN technology optimized for the networked home entertainment environment. Featuring advanced MIMO technology and full support of QoS, and operating in both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, WLANPLUS enables multi-room networking of multiple high-definition video streams.

Lantiq is a leader in the Access Network and CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) markets, and through this acquisition, it will broaden its presence in the digital home with the strengthening of its wireless portfolio. In addition to reference designs, first ICs produced in 65nanometer process technology are already sampling and will be available for mass production in spring 2010.
