PIPE to Link its New Pacific Undersea Cable to Equinix Sydney

PIPE Networks has selected Equinix as a key interconnect provider for its new PIPE Pacific Cable (PPC-1) undersea cable, which will link Australia to Guam with up to 2.56 Tbps of capacity. Through Equinix Sydney-1 (SY1) International Business Exchange (IBX) data center located in its Sydney campus, Equinix will provide PIPE with convenient, secure and cost-effective access to the aggregation of Australia's leading carriers operating within the center. The connection in Guam provides onward connectivity to Asia as well as to the United States.

  • In October, PIPE International and Tyco Telecommunications announced the completion of the PPC-1 cable system, a 6,900 km system linking Sydney to Guam. With a capacity of 2.56 terabits per second over two fiber pairs and 40 Gbps capable, the PPC-1 system will provide diversity to the few existing routes in the region, in addition to onward connectivity to Asia and the United States.
