Ericsson has formed a new division headquartered in San Jose focused on IP & Broadband solutions with R&D focused on mobile broadband and Internet convergence. In addition, Ericsson hosted a press event to mark the opening of its newest Experience Center in San Jose.
Ericsson's new IP & Broadband division is responsible for solutions that help service providers transform their legacy fixed and mobile networks to converged full service broadband networks. The location now employs over 1,200 people.
At the campus opening and ribbon cutting ceremony, Ericsson executives spoke about the importance of the North American market and Silicon Valley as pioneers in the fixed Internet and the natural synergies that now exist for Ericsson, as the mobility leader, to help develop the next wave of the Internet.
"Ericsson is deeply integrated into the fabric of the Valley. Our IP & Broadband business is enabling the ‘ip-fication' of operator networks and we are closely collaborating with local organizations and academia such as Stanford University, the Tech Policy Council, Open Mobile Media, the Computer History Museum, and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group," said Bert Nordberg, Head of Ericsson in the Silicon Valley and EVP at Ericsson
