Bookham announced a 40 Gbps Optical Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (ODQPSK) modulator chip implemented through proprietary indium phosphide Mach Zehnder (InP MZ) technology. Bookham plans to combine this functionality with its tunable laser in new products specifically for use in the growing 40 Gbps market.
Bookham said the reduced size InP MZ platform (5mm) will allow it to offer 40 Gbps products in smaller footprints compared to existing 40 Gbps offerings employing larger optics.http://www.bookham.com
