SAVVIS Selects XO for Network Expansion

SAVVIS, which provides IT infrastructure services for business and government applications, awarded a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement to XO Communications to provide local access network services. Under the terms of the agreement, SAVVIS has the option to purchase a broad range of high-capacity local access network services including XO Metro and Inter-City Ethernet Services and XO Wavelength services at 2.5 and 10 Gbps speeds.

SAVVIS will use the XO network services to provide local access to its data centers as it continues to build out its high capacity Next Generation Network to meet increased demand for its scalable IT infrastructure services.

SAVVIS currently has 23 data centers encompassing 1.3 million square feet and has announced plans to develop four new data centers in the areas around Atlanta, New York City, Washington, DC and Santa Clara, California.

  • In July 2007, XO Communications announced plans to deploy an additional 800 Gbps of capacity on major coast-to-coast routes across its nationwide 18,000 route-mile optical network, augmenting a capacity expansion XO completed last year which delivered 400 Gbps of capacity across its network. Specifically, XO will light two new fiber strands on its nationwide fiber network, adding 800 Gbps of capacity in core XO network nodes which will deliver an additional 80 10-Gbps channels on major coast-to-coast XO network routes. The upgrade is being delivered on Infinera's DTN system, which XO implemented last year with the initial expansion of its network.
