Google Bids to Offer Free Wi-Fi in San Francisco

Google submitted a bid to the City of San Francisco to offer free Wi-Fi service to residences and city offices. The Google plan would provide free 300 kbps service capable of reach 90% of building interiors in the city. A premium Wi-Fi service with higher access speeds would be offered through other wholesale carriers. Several other carriers, including Earthlink, also submitted proposals for San Francisco's TechConnect project.
