Florida Deploys Nortel's Multiservice Switching for Video Monitoring

The Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) is deploying Nortel's Multiservice Switching solution to support video traffic monitoring equipment, traffic counters for identifying congested conditions, and electronic highway information signs.


The network provides real-time monitoring of traffic and road conditions for traffic management centers across the state, including across more than 40,800 highway lane miles and 6,377 bridges in Florida. Nortel's Multiservice Switch (MSS) 15000 serves as the backbone of the microwave radio-based multiservice infrastructure. Florida DOT required a solution that could coexist with its existing network of highway emergency call boxes.
