Agere Drives EDGE Into the U.S. Market

Agere Systems began shipping its Sceptre HPE silicon and software in volume for an advanced multimedia-capable EDGE wireless phone from Samsung currently being offered in the U.S. by Cingular. Samsung's SGH-P777 is the first EDGE phone from an Asia-based manufacturer in production for the U.S. market. EDGE phones are capable of downloading data at speeds of more than 220 kbps and uploading data at more than 100 kbps.
