XConnect, a carrier neutral exchange located in London, has launched a service the interconnects VoIP islands and facilitates commercial relationships between them, by enabling settlement or settlement-free exchanges of traffic. The company is also forming an "XConnect Alliance" that offers multilateral settlement-free between carriers. Founding members include Gossiptel in the UK, Telio in Scandinavia and VozTelecom in Spain.
XConnect said its service provides the five key requirements for bridging VoIP islands:
- a number directory resource,
- interoperability management
- commercial relationships (including the settlement-free XConnect Alliance)
- VoIP security systems and
- identity services.
The XConnect service uses interconnection technology from Kayote Networks.
