Avanex Unveils 10-12.5 Gbps Modulator with 120 km Reach

Avanex introduced a 10-12.5 Gbps Lithium Niobate chirped intensity external modulator, which features an innovative chirp mechanism capable of extending the reach of uncompensated signal transmission to 120 kilometers (over single-mode fiber at 2000 ps/nm). Avanex said conventional modulators such as intrinsically chirped single-drive z-cut modulators have the potential for uncompensated signal transmission only up to 80 to 100 kilometers.
