SOFTBANK is expanding its deployment of UTStarcom's NetRing 10000 STM-64 multiservice optical transport solution to build the operator's new nationwide fixed-line network. Japan Telecom, a unit of SOFTBANK, is using the new network to deliver high-speed broadband, voice and video services to its subscribers. The network ultimately will serve all of Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Kyushu in the south. The expansion contract is valued at approximately $9 million. http://www.utstar.com
