Cavium Acquires Brecis' Secure Communication Processors

Cavium Networks has acquired Brecis Communications' MIPS based Secure Communication Processor product portfolio. The Brecis processors have been integrated into customer premise equipment such as broadband routers, security appliances and wireless access points. The product line acquisition includes all intellectual property, inventory, technology and exclusive rights to the Secure Communication Processor products. Cavium Networks has also retained key Brecis personnel. Financial terms were not disclosed.



Cavium Networks supplies its own line of NITROX security processors and NITROX accelerator boards, delivering 50 Mbps to 10 Gbps of encryption bandwidth with 1K to 50K RSA/DH operations per second.   • In February 2003, BRECIS Communications, a start-up based in San Jose, California, announced an additional $20 million in funding for its line of multiservice processors. The funding round, which was led by new investor Crosslink Capital, included returning investors InterWest Partners, Focus Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, and Sequoia Capital. This brought total investment in the company to $72.4 million at the time.
