Motorola Names CEO for its Freescale Spin-off

Michel Mayer has been appointed chairman and chief executive officer of Freescale Semiconductor, a Motorola subsidiary that is expected to become a separate, publicly traded company later this year. Mayer spent almost 20 years at IBM Corporation, most recently as general manager of IBM Microelectronics, which develops and markets customized semiconductor products and services. A native of France, Mayer earned a degree of ingenieur in electrical engineering and computer science from the Ecole Superieure d'Electricite in Paris.

With the creation and spinoff of Freescale Semiconductor, Motorola is creating two distinct companies. Motorola will continue as a global leader in wireless, broadband and automotive communications technologies, while Freescale Semiconductor will be a global leader in semiconductors. http://www.Freescale.comhttp://www.motorola.com
