The ITU has selected Discrete MultiTone (DMT) line coding as the worldwide standard for VDSL (Very high-speed Digital Subscriber Line) technology. The selection is expected to help accelerate the rollout of triple play services based on VDSL. http://www.itu.int/newsroom/press_releases/2004/08.html

  • In July 2003, the IEEE's 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Task Force selected DMT instead of Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) as its worldwide line-coding standard for VDSL.
