Pedestal Networks is boosting its line-powered DSLAM to enable the small, environmentally hardened unit to deliver 3 Mbps ADSL at distances of up to 50,000 feet from a central office. Release 2 of Pedestal's Universal Broadband Server DSLAM also provides support for all standard ATM Quality of Service (QoS) classifications (CBR, VBR-rt, VBR-nrt, UBR, and UBR+). Each UBS line supports up to four Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs), enabling up to four different QoS contracts per line. Carriers can provision independent data streams offering different classes of service to support the specific needs of voice, video, and data applications--and charge accordingly. When the provider is ready to service triple play applications, carriers can modify QoS designations dynamically from the Network Operations Center (NOC).
Pedestal's DSLAM is NEBS-III compliant and GR-487 certified and be installed underground, underwater, in a buried hand-hole, mounted on poles, inside pedestals or crossboxes, or in any similar unconditioned enclosure in the field. The new release also introduces a new Element Management System (EMS), including detailed diagnostics and performance monitoring features.
