Navtel Offers Performance Benchmarking for VoIP

Navtel Communications introduced a performance benchmarking application for VoIP control, data and transport planes. Navtel's InterWatch can be used by network equipment manufacturers or service providers to measuring the scalability of a next generation converged network based on IP/MPLS standards. The latest InterWatch release is built around three major features.


The first feature of release 5.3.2 for VoIP is the level of control plane performance and scalability available from one InterWatch system. Depending on the protocol, one InterWatch can generate up to 17.8 million BHCA at 480 calls/second per port. It scales up to 256,000 end-points per test system. InterWatch VoIP control plane test applications include conformance, functional, performance interoperability and scalability testing. The InterWatch supports a wide range of protocols such as MGCP, SIP, MEGACO and SIGTRAN.


Another major feature is the release of RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) and VQT (Voice Quality Testing) generation and analysis packages, the second building block of the control, data and transport plane InterWatch test system.


The final major feature is the vastly enhanced IP QoS real-time test suite which is a significant component of Navtel's converged network test solution. The InterWatch QoS test suite is designed to perform automated analysis of the mapping/re-classification of the DUT/SUT regardless of the classification/marking capabilities invoked and the congestion management, avoidance; shaping and policing implemented within the DUT/SUT. This functionality can be used in conjunction with the MPLS DS-TE control information supported to provide support for carrier class VoIP across an MPLS backbone. The release also supports ATM Label type as well as the "Generic Label" type support for MPLS over ATM as defined by RFC3035. This allows MPLS networks to utilize the core capabilities of ATM while simultaneously adding a packet router infrastructure to optimize traffic engineering to support voice. http://www.navtelcom.com
