CoSine Offers Multicasting for Enterprise Video Services

CoSine Communications announced its a multicast feature set for IPSX 3500 and 9500 Service Switches. The new capabilities include Virtualized Multicast routing initially based on Protocol Independent Multicast Sparse Mode (PIM-SM) and hardware-accelerated Multicast Forwarding, both of which enable service providers to replicate and distribute a single stream of video to a few locations or to several thousand different sites. CoSine said each service can be customized on a per-enterprise basis. The designs scales to support thousands of PIM-SM instances at multi-gigabit speeds. CoSine's IPSX and the new multicast features are currently in trials with carrier customers. CoSine plans to make these features generally available in Q2 2004. An entry level IPSX with the Multicast feature set is available starting at $100K. http://www.cosinecom.com
