UTStarcom Signs Another $43 Million Contract with China Netcom

In just six months since China Netcom began offering a low-cost wireless local telephone service using UTStarcom's IP-based Personal Access System (iPAS) in China's northern HeiLongJiang province, over 800,000 subscribers have signed-up. Over half of these new subscribers are in the provincial capital of Harbin. China Netcom has signed a contract valued at approximately $43 million to deploy additional iPAS equipment. UTStarcom said the explosive PAS subscriber growth is indicative of what is happening in other metropolitan and suburban regions of China.
