Quantenna samples first full-duplex 802.11ax mesh chipset

Quantenna Communications began sampling the first chipset for 802.11ax mesh repeater networks based on the newest Wi-Fi specification. The chipset combines three 4x4 802.11ax radios and integrated CPU cores for optimal mesh repeating functionality and full-duplex operation, which avoids interfering with a home gateway by using a different radio frequency. Embedded CPUs provide full Access Point (AP) and bridging functionality.

“Quantenna is very excited to expand its presence in the mesh repeater market with our QSR10R-AX chipset,” said Lionel Bonnot, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Quantenna. “With the continuing increase of the number of clients and Internet of Things (IoT) devices in the home, mesh networks must work flawlessly to ensure a truly reliable and high-performance network. We believe the QSR10R-AX is the ideal solution to fulfill this demand.”

Quantenna QSR10R-AX chipset solution key features:

  • Two 4x4 5GHz 802.11ax radios
  • One 4x4 2.4GHz 802.11ax radio
  • Embedded CPUs for on-chip 802.11ax Access Point and Bridging support
  • 2.4GHz PTA interface to co-exist with external IoT radios
  • RGMII port for GbE connection
  • Quantenna’s SONiQ mesh software for client roaming, channel steering and AP load balancing

Technicolor picks Quantenna for Dual-Band Wi-Fi Extender

Technicolor has adopted Quantenna Communications' QV860 chipset for its OWA0130 dual-band extender, which extends the coverage of Wi-Fi gateways and could be used by service providers for in-home mesh networks.

Technicolor’s OWA0130 is a multi-function extender which supports both 5GHz 802.11ac Wave 2 and 2.4GHz 802.11n networks. It can be easily configured to be a wired extender, which uses a gigabit Ethernet connection as the backhaul, or a fully wireless extender, in which the 5GHz 802.11ac is used as the backhaul. In either configuration, the OWA0130 supports a dual-band, dual-concurrent 4x4 5GHz 802.11ac and a 2x2 2.4GHz 802.11n network to downstream clients. The OWA0130 also supports Technicolor’s cloud-based Wi-Fi monitoring solution, Wi-Fi Doctor, and is available now.

“A successful connected home experience today depends on reliable and high-quality Wi-Fi infrastructures which can support a growing array of devices requiring wireless access to the internet,” said Bart Vercammen, VP Product Management at Technicolor. “The collaboration between Technicolor and Quantenna offers network service providers an opportunity to offer subscribers consistent and excellent performance throughout their homes.”

Quantenna Enables 10G Wave 3 Wi-Fi Access Points

Quantenna Communications announced the availability of the first 10G Wave 3 Wi-Fi product family for home wireless access points and residential gateways with unprecedented Wi-Fi performance, reliability and capacity for high-density environments.

Quantenna’s True 8x8 QSR10G Wi-Fi platform with multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) technology is the first to implement 10G Wave 3 to support speeds up to 10Gbps. This milestone speed benchmark for Wi-Fi is attained by combining the industry’s first True 8x8 MIMO configuration for 5GHz networks with a 4x4 MIMO configuration on 2.4GHz networks for a combined 12-stream configuration.

“In Wi-Fi access points more antennas are always better, but 10G Wave 3 is not just about 8x8 MU-MIMO and faster speeds. It’s about making better use of network and airtime efficiency to support the growing number of connected devices, services and applications,” said Dr. Sam Heidari, Quantenna CEO. “After pioneering the Wi-Fi industry with 4x4 MIMO, we’ve gained a deep understanding of real-world channel behavior in crowded environments. These insights have led to the creation of 10G Wave 3 and the world’s first 8x8 MIMO, which are poised to revolutionize the Wi-Fi experience.”

Key Wave 3 Features and Benefits

  • Integrated AP chipset for dual-band (5GHz and 2.4GHz), dual concurrent operation and management
  • 160MHz channel support for 5GHz networks. When combined with 8x8 MIMO configuration, this offers 4x the capacity of 80MHz 4x4 MIMO networks
  • Unique adaptive MIMO configuration
  • Up to 1024 QAM modulation for 2.4GHz and 5GHz transmissions
  • Supports rich set of interfaces to external hosts such as PCIe Gen3/Gen2, RXAUI, RGMII, and others
