Jabil to take over Intel's Silicon Photonics transceiver business

Jabil will take over the manufacture and sale of Intel’s current Silicon Photonics-based pluggable optical transceiver product lines and the development of future generations of such modules.

"This deal better positions Jabil to cater to the needs of our valued customers in the data center industry, including hyperscale, next-wave clouds, and AI cloud data centers. These complex environments present unique challenges, and we are committed to tackling them head-on and delivering innovative solutions to support the evolving demands of the data center ecosystem," stated Matt Crowley, Senior Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise Infrastructure at Jabil. "This deal enables Jabil to expand its presence in the data center value chain."

Through its photonics business unit, Jabil empowers organizations to reduce the complexities of developing and deploying enhanced optical networking solutions by offering complete photonics capabilities, including component design, system assembly, and streamlined supply chain management.

Jabil debuts 800G Active Optical Cable Family

Jabil introduced a new Active Optical Cable (AOC) family suited for disaggregated data center and cloud environments. 

The first product is available in two configurations:

  • point-to-point communications at speeds up to 800Gbps over distances of up to 100 meters. 
  • a breakout-cable configuration which connects a single 800Gbps interface with two 400G QSFP-DD modules. The breakout cable is ideally suited to connect next-gen switches operating at 800Gbps with existing ports operating at 400Gbps without requiring additional conversion or mapping. 

The new 800G AOC product, which will be available in both QSFP-DD and OSFP form factors,  leverages Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology operating at 100Gbps per fiber and 800G PAM4 Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology. 

Jabil’s first 800G AOC product will be available during the second half of 2023. Development is underway on 400G AOC products to extend the AOC product line while accommodating a wide range of applications.

ECOC22: Jabil intros CFP2 DCO transceivers based on Nokia

Jabil Photonics announced general availability and customer testing of its CFP2 DCO ECO Coherent Transceiver. 

This latest module is based on Nokia’s CSTAR200+ silicon photonics optical engine. 

Jabil Photonics offers the coherent technologies and solutions required for a wide range of applications, including 5G, metro networking and data-center interconnects. Moreover, the second-generation 100G/200G modules comply with the most recent communications standards requirements while minimizing power consumption with the most recent Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and optical-engine technologies.

IP Infusion and Jabil Photonics debut 400G ZR OLS

IP Infusion and Jabil Photonics introduced a 400G Open Line System – the 400G ZR OLS.

The solution optimizes the transport of 400ZR signals over 80/120 kilometers by utilizing the IP Infusion OcNOS software stack to meet the massive demand for bandwidth globally.

Within the optical domain, this surge has impacted the products and modules that translate client signals into an optical signal, such as transponders and mux-ponders. Additionally, this surge is evolving towards pluggable coherent modules implementing 400G ZR/ZR+ standards that can be plugged directly into Ethernet switches and/or IP routers.

The new 400G ZR OLS is provided in a standard 1RU chassis and can be installed into the same Ethernet switch and cloud server rack. The product is available to end customers, network integrators and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in a variety of business models, including as a white label.

Jabil Photonics demos coherent SiP-based 100G/200G CFP2-DCO

Jabil Photonics (formerly Jabil AOC Technologies) is demonstrating its coherent 100G/200G CFP2-DCO module this week at ECOC 2019 in Dublin.

Jabil’s CFP2-DCO is a hot-pluggable module designed to support single-wavelength data coherent transmission at 100Gbps using DP-QPSK and 200Gbps using DP-16QAM modulations. The CFP2-DCO is designed for DWDM networks ranging from metro and data-center interconnect (DCI) to long-haul applications, as well as 100Gbps point-to-point (P2P) coherent solutions for unamplified links in 5G and cable access networks up to 80km.

Jabil’s CFP2-DCO is powered by Elenion Technologies’ next generation Silicon Photonics (SiP) coherent engine. The module incorporates an ultra-narrow linewidth external cavity micro-ITLA laser with gridless DWDM wavelength capability for tuning across the extended C-Band, and a low power coherent Digital Signal Processor (DSPs) using advanced 16-nm CMOS technology.

The CFP2-DCO will be Jabil’s first product launched under the “Jabil Photonics” brand which replaces the former “Jabil AOC Technologies” brand.  The new branding reflects Jabil’s end-to-end manufacturing and supply chain capabilities in the area of photonics.  In addition to the product line expansion with the Jabil Photonics CFP2-DCO, Jabil is growing its investment in the optical segment with the expansion of its Penang, Malaysia, production facility with a focus on Optical Manufacturing Services (OMS) as well as Jabil Photonics components.
