Webinar: New fiber connectivity options inside the switch chassis

As the next generation of data center switch designs advance, new possibilities for fiber management inside the chassis are emerging. In this one-hour webinar, we will hear from Paul Yip who will discuss an innovative fiber shuffle from Optec for transmitting optical signals from the switching silicon to the front panel. The idea is to facilitate the fiber management and system redundancy from the CPO optical engines. Then we will hear from Fujikura's Teruhiko Omori who will present the various types of fiber suitable for these applications.

Paul Yip is Product Marketing Manager of Optec Technology Limited. He joined Optec in 2015 and has key roles in product line management, field application engineering, and strategic marketing.

Teruhiko Omori is a manager at Fiber Optics Components Department, Optical Component Division, Fujikura Ltd. He joined Fujikura in 1990 and engaged in research & development, production engineering and business development of passive optical components and business development of fiber-optic cabling solutions.Manufacturability, reliability, and maintenance issues will be considered.

Exploring high-density fiber and connector solutions

This free webinar will discuss the rapidly evolving solutions for high-density connectors and fiber technology. Topics include fiber reliability and new fiber types for OBO and high density applications, such as multicore fiber, thin fiber, PMF, BiDi/SWDM MMF, as well as hollow core fiber for low latency applications. The webinar will also discuss connector types (12 and 16 fiber MPO, SEN, SAC, MDC, expanded beam, etc.), connector performance and connector impact on system performance, end-face cleanliness and inspection.

Our guests include Bulent Kose, Principal Optical Engineer, Panduit Laboratories; Yi Sun, Senior R&D Engineer, OFS; and G. Mabud Choudhury, Standards Manager, OFS.

Date: 19-October-2022

Webinar replay: New Design Considerations for a CPO or OBO Switch

https://youtu.be/XZWx7XOWc7o

Next generation applications trend toward disaggregation. To meet the requirements for cost, power, latency, and overall bandwidth of each component needs to be considered.  The removal of the optical pluggables from the faceplate provides an opportunity to re-evaluate the faceplate configuration for optical connections, heat management, and power into a network switch or datacenter server.

The Consortium for On-board Optics (COBO) recently published a detailed 46-page industry guidance document addressing the design options ahead for a Co-Packaged or On-Board Optics Switch.   The guidance document represents the work of 47 COBO Members and took over 2 years to complete.

This hour-long webinar discusses key engineering topics, including these design options and their potential impacts on optical signal, thermal, and safety criteria.

Presenters include Tiger Ninomiya, Technology and Innovation Manager, SENKO Advanced Components, and Peter Johnson, Staff Scientist, SABIC, and who served as the Chief Editor of COBO CPO Whitepaper.

This was the 11th in a series of webinars presented by COBO, the Consortium for On-board Optics, and sponsored by DuPont’s Silicon Valley Technology Center.

Webinar: Exploring PAM4 SR data center interconnects

Join us on Sep 15, 2021 10:00 AM in Pacific Time

Many standards use Pulse-Amplitude Modulation 4-Level (PAM4) Short Reach coding scheme, including for 200 Gbps and 400 Gbps interfaces within the data center. Some vendors have implemented DSP in their optical devices to handle noise impairments. To reduce cost and power consumption, others have developed PAM4 AOC (active optical cables) and SR modules using analog CDR technology. With the transition to 400G Ethernet in full swing, and 800G around the corner, unique challenges are presented which will be discussed during this webinar.

This 60-minute webinar will explore PAM4 interconnect approaches. We will hear from Dr. Yung Son, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at Optomind, which offers an advanced optical engine technology for enabling 400G QSFP56-DD AOC and SR8 optical transceivers with analog CDR. We will also hear from Kees Propstra, Vice President of Marketing at MultiLane, a leading provider of High-Speed IO and Data Center Interconnect test solutions. Kees has a Master of Science in physics and a post-graduate degree in modern optics from the University of Twente, the Netherlands.
