Proxxima Telecom deploys Padtec dual 400 Gb/s transponders

Proxxima Telecom, a telecommunications service provider of Paraíba (Brazil), is deploying Padtec’s new line of dual 400 Gbps transponders for its new DWDM network connecting the municipalities of Campina Grande, in Paraíba, and Caruaru, in Pernambuco.

Proxxima Telecom intends to expand the service offerings and its customer base in this region and to later expand its operations to other neighboring cities and states.

“To accomplish this, we intend to continue counting on Padtec’s partnership, which has also helped us in planning the investment necessary to expand our network”, says Leonardo Gomes, CEO of Proxxima. He also emphasizes the quality of service and the agility of Padtec’s support areas as important differentials offered by the company.

The new generation of Padtec transponders features flexible pluggable network interfaces, with up to 400 Gbps of transmission capacity (based on CFP2-DCO).

“With this, we combine greater performance of the optical channels with the gradual expansion capacity of the network, according to the growth in demand and the performance of providers in the market”, emphasizes Argemiro Sousa, Business Director at Padtec. Another highlight is the product’s compatibility with the three shelf models of the LightPad Platform (with 2, 4 and 14RU height), supporting applications of different capacities in short, medium and long distance networks.

In addition, Padtec’s new line of 400 Gb/s transponders can also be financed through credit lines offered by the company to providers, of different sizes, throughout Brazil. Padtec offers the market financing options through BNDES, FIDC with the Sifra group, Finep (branch of investments in technology and innovation of the federal government), “vendor financing” with private banks and “forfait” operations for international sales.

Padtec offers remote management of telecom sites

Padtec introduced Smart Site, a new cloud-based service for the remote and real-time management of network environments (sites) of operators and internet providers (ISPs) distributed throughout the different regions of Brazil. Padtec plans to expand the offering worldwide.

The Smart Site platform has features that centralize the service provider’s operation, allowing complete management of their sites, wherever they are – telemetry data are read by sensors and commands are sent remotely to installed actuators on each monitored site. An important differential of Padtec’s new service is the possibility of using systems (software) and equipment already installed in customers’ environments, without the need for new investments.

For a monthly fee, the operator or provider can remotely monitor and control security systems – with presence sensors, cameras and access control – and energy, temperature and humidity (internal and external) and also operate the air conditioning systems of their sites. All this in a single web environment, which also brings, among other features, the map service with the location of all monitored sites.

“With this service, Padtec starts to offer its customers a complete and effective tool to deal with the complexities inherent to the management of network environments, minimizing the risks of continuity of critical operations”, explains Carlos Raimar, Padtec’s CEO. “Remote management, through automation resources and functionalities that simplify the monitoring and control routine of distributed sites, often in very distant regions, brings efficiency and productivity gains”, he adds.

Brazil's Forte Telecom upgrades to 800G transponders with Padtec

Forte Telecom, a carrier of carriers in Rio de Janeiro, is upgrading its backbone with 800 Gbps transponders from Padtec.

The upgraded infrastructure will cover  thousands of kilometers in the stretches between the capitals of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo and in the metropolitan region of Rio, reaching a total transmission capacity of 8 Tbps.

For the expansion, the provider used a credit line from the credit rights investment fund (FIDC) launched by Padtec together with BNDES Participações (BNDESPar) in 2021, which uses resources from the Fund for the Technological Development of Telecommunications (FUNTTEL)  from the Ministry of Communications. The objective, in this case, is to facilitate access to capital resources by small and medium-sized Brazilian industries operating in the telecommunications sector.

For Sérgio Simas, Forte Telecom’s CEO, one of the main advantages of this generation of transponders is to combine high data transmission capacity and less equipment, reducing the cost per transmitted bit – as well as energy and space consumption, which are scarce in telecommunications environments. “This meets our objective of building a high-performance network to evolve our service offering and respond quickly and flexibly to the constant changes in the data traffic profile resulting from the growing demand for broadband”, he says.

Carlos Raimar, Padtec’s CEO, emphasizes that the offer of different credit options reinforces the company’s commitment to the success and growth of its customers. “For some years now, Padtec has been dedicating efforts to make the expansion of the networks of regional operators financially viable”, he says. “The lines of credit bring new options of resources for investments in the expansion of its operations, as well as in the increase of the capacity and quality of its networks, in order to support the growth of demand in the time that its business and its customers demand”, adds Raimar.

Padtec debuts 800 Gbps and 1.2 Tbps transponders

Padtec introduced its TM800G and TM1200G transponders for short, medium and long distances in a compact, rack mountable form for both telecom and data center applications. The muxponders enable service providers to combine multiple 100Gbps client signals into a single network signal.

Padtec said its new LightPad i6400G platform’s transponders combine a high data transmission rate with a lower cost per transmitted bit and are suited for alien wavelength applications.

“The development of this product is in line with the company’s commitment to constantly invest in the evolution of its product line, providing the market with innovative solutions and state-of-the-art technology in optical systems”, says Manuel Andrade, Padtec North America’s CEO.

“Another of the technical innovations of this generation of transponders is the more flexible network interfaces that allow better adaptation of optical channels to meet the increasing demands for network performance and expansion”, says Manuel.

The new unit measures 1RU high and 300 mm deep, enabling rack mounting in both datacenters and telecom locations.

Brazil's Padtec completes financial transformation

Padtec, a global provider of flexible and high-capacity optical transport solutions based in Brazil, completed the last stage of the merger of its shares by Padtec Holding, formerly Ideiasnet, a company traded on B3 (the Brazilian stock exchange), which becomes its sole shareholder.

Under the transformation, Padtec’s former shareholders become part of the new Padtec Holding’s shareholding structure. At a special general meeting of the company held today, statutory and corporate governance changes and the new name of the company, which changed from Ideiasnet to Padtec Holding, were approved. The trading code for the company’s shares on B3 has also been changed to PDTC3.

In practice, this operation turns Ideiasnet into Padtec. “Ideiasnet no longer has its own structure, giving way to Padtec. Padtec, on the other hand, starts to access the capital market more easily with the operation”, said Renato Jordão, CFO and Investor Relations Director of the new Padtec Holding.

Jordão also pointed out that the operation is part of the company’s strategy to continue to focus efforts on the market for high-capacity optical systems for data transmission networks. “Raising capital through a new share offering at B3 is something that we see in the medium term. The capital obtained with a new offering of shares in B3 will be directed, primarily, to the areas of research and development of cutting-edge technology. The objective is to expand the leadership in the Brazilian market and, also, expand Padtec’s performance in the international market”, says the executive. “With this, we will be able to offer increasingly advanced solutions and services to the market, in order to make the company even more competitive and accelerate its business in Brazil and abroad”, he added.

Ekinops acquires OTN tech fom Padtec

Ekinops agreed to acquire an OTN switching platform developed by Padtec, an optical communications system manufacturer based in Brazil, for €10 million in cash. The deal brings an experienced R&D team comprised of 25 engineers based in Campinas, near Sao Paulo (Brazil). Brazilian operations will be overseen by Jean-Luc Pamart, co-founder of Ekinops and VP of R&D for optical transport.

With this acquisition, Ekinops expects to be able to offer a complete OTN/DWDM solution for optical networks from early 2020, enabling flexible data traffic and support for the evolution of data speeds and protocols transmitted over 200-400G modulated optical wavelengths, eventually reaching 1 Tbps.

Ekinops plans to carry out a capital increase by private placement over the coming weeks, for an amount capped at 10% of the capital stock.

Padtec CEO Manuel Andrade said:

"The acquisition of the OTN-Switch Platform by a globally recognized company such as Ekinops is a validation of the capability of Padtec's engineers to develop state-of-the-art technologies deployable worldwide. Additionally, we are happy to enter into commercial agreements with Ekinops that will enable Padtec to offer the OTN-Switch on an OEM basis to our customer base in Latin America. This is a clear win-win agreement for both companies."

Didier Brédy, Chairman & CEO of Ekinops, made the following comments:

"The OTN technology developed by Padtec is particularly innovative and will enable Ekinops to take a major technological and commercial leap forward in order to advance its position with leading telecom operators. The agreements with Padtec, the leading Latin American manufacturer and supplier of optical networking equipment, will also allow Padtec to source the OTN products it needs from Ekinops. This major strategic acquisition means that Ekinops can target to triple its sales of optical transport products within 5 years."
